Hi, I’m Jocelyn.

Founder of Peace Of Motherhood and author of Fearfully & Wonderfully Made. However, I am also a few other things.

Christian

I am a follower of Christ. One thing I believe about God is that He made a perfect design for birth, breastfeeding, and babies. I began my journey of rethinking everything I believed about motherhood when I cried every night from sleep deprivation, I followed all the guidelines and I still struggled to breastfeed, I did everything the way the culture told me and I still fell short of the unrealistic societal expectations. I’d never been a mother before, but I knew in my heart, God wouldn’t make it like this. I’m happy to share with new expectant mothers that motherhood is incredibly peaceful when you follow His design!

Doula

A Doula can provide you with additional hours of education (Doctors & midwives sometimes do not have the time!) to know all of your options so you feel confident about the ones you make. Doulas can also provide you with many advocacy tools you can use to feel confident and at peace in your birthing space.

Wife + Mom

I married the love of my life in 2019 after 7 years together! We had always dreamed of the family we could create and now we get to live that dream! Parenting is the hardest challenge a couple will ever face. But if done with consistent love, patience, and willingness to communicate, it is the most rewarding and fulfilling experience. Follow along my blogs on parenting to know how we stay connected through the tough times.

“If breastfeeding is natural, then why is it so hard?”

A reoccurring question I used to ask myself. I discovered that it is routine interferences and societal expectations that make breastfeeding arduous, not a broken body. I want to become an IBCLC to help women aid and protect the natural and instinctive process of breastfeeding giving them the best chances of reaching their goals!

My Mission

Our biology is instinctive. The need for me and my baby to together is intrinsic. God did all the work. He created a complex design for our bodies to work together naturally and peacefully. My babies have a natural, built-in mechanism to communicate what they need. All I had to do was listen and respond to what I felt in my heart. God’s design for parenting has prospered a peaceful and empowering relationship between me and my children.

I want to share my story in hopes to help and encourage others to have the journey of motherhood they desire.

Birth

I used to believe that birth hurts and there’s nothing I can do about it. After reading Genesis 3:14, 16, & 17, I realized God never curses man nor woman; he only curses the serpent and the ground. Now I believe a peaceful birth is not only possible, but how it’s meant to be.

Breastfeeding

I always believed breastfeeding is mechanical. I never knew my baby’s willingness to latch could be impacted by the level of connection we have, not just by the position she was in.

Postpartum

I heard sleep deprivation, passing the baby around, + following sleep + eating schedules was an inevitable part of motherhood, so I never questioned it as I was suffering. I didn’t know responding to my baby’s natural instincts to need me was building a healthy brain, not spoiling them.

Parenting

I thought strict, firm, rule-making was the key to obedience, when in reality I was just being cold. I didn’t know how love & connection – not fear – could be the greatest source of obedience.

Motherhood is innate, my body knows how to be a mother all on its own in the most perfect and beautiful way. I just needed to listen.

During our sessions together I share God’s imperative design for birth and breastfeeding. I teach you how to aid and protect the hormonal and instinctual processes God created. She was amazing and helped me every step of the way. She helped me with exercises, massages, comforting words, and lots of affection.

Jocelyn was essential in making the birth as painless and humane as possible. She was incredible with me from the beginning to the postpartum period. I don’t speak very good English, but that wasn’t a problem for either of us; she’s perfect at what she does. I can’t thank her enough.

Trauma To Triumph

I had two very different experiences of birth. My first was traumatic and lead to an arduous breastfeeding relationship. My second was peaceful, empowering, and I breastfed from day one with no supplementation.

The strange part was, from a distance, my two births looked so similar. Unmedicated, at home, similar midwifery team, same supportive husband; yet, two completely different experiences.

From trauma to triumph, I share where my journey of advocacy all began.
